Sometimes portrait sessions remind us that life—like the Colorado weather—doesn’t always go according to plan, but beauty always finds its way in. This recent family portrait session in Conifer, Colorado was the perfect example.

We started the day under gray skies with the forecast calling for rain. I kept checking the horizon, wondering if we’d have to reschedule. But as the afternoon unfolded, the clouds began to lift, and what could have been a gloomy day turned into a golden, peaceful evening in the mountains.

Every newborn session is special, but when a new baby arrives in a family of seven children, the love and excitement in the room is multiplied in the most beautiful way. Recently, I had the joy of welcoming this incredible family into my Highlands Ranch home studio for their newborn session. With six older siblings eager to celebrate their new brother or sister, the energy was both lively and heartwarming.

When most people think of newborn portraits, they imagine those first two weeks of life when babies are still sleepy and curly, easily tucking into those classic newborn poses. And while that window is ideal, life doesn’t always go according to plan. Sometimes, birth brings unexpected challenges—like a NICU stay—that shift the timing but not the beauty of capturing those first months of life.

That was the case for this sweet family who came into my Highlands Ranch home studio with their 7-week-old baby boy.

One of the things I love most about being a portrait photographer is meeting people with such fascinating stories—and this professional headshot session in downtown Denver was exactly that! My client, a hedge fund manager and former aerospace engineer, needed updated portraits that reflect his personality, professionalism, and approachable energy.
