A Studio Maternity Session with Family Close to My Heart

There are some sessions that feel extra special, and this one truly touched me. Growing up, my cousin and I never lived close. Life had us in different places, and our paths didn’t cross often. But now, we’re only twenty minutes apart—and for the first time, I had the joy of meeting his beautiful wife and their two darling girls, ages four and two.

Not only was it wonderful finally getting to know them, but I had the absolute honor of photographing such a meaningful milestone in their lives: the anticipation of welcoming a new baby into their family.

In the studio, the energy was soft and joyful. Their little girls filled the space with giggles and curiosity, while Mom glowed in her elegant, neutral-toned gown—radiant and graceful. Dad’s quiet admiration was written all over his face, and the way he looked at her during our time together made capturing their love so natural.

One of my favorite moments from the session was the intimate portraits of just the two of them—Mom resting her hands gently over her baby bump while Dad sat close, his hand lovingly placed on hers. There was such tenderness in the way they connected, as if the rest of the world melted away and all that mattered was this season of waiting and excitement.

The girls, of course, brought their own sparkle to the portraits—playful hugs, spontaneous snuggles, and those authentic little bursts of laughter that only young children can bring. Their love for their soon-to-arrive sibling was already so apparent.

For me, this session wasn’t just about photographs. It was about connection—bridging the distance of years apart and finally being able to step into this chapter of my cousin’s life. To celebrate his growing family and to preserve these fleeting, beautiful moments for them was such a gift.

I left the studio that day with a full heart, grateful for family, for the closeness that time and distance can’t diminish, and for the privilege of turning their love into timeless keepsakes.
