Golden Hour Magic | Family Portraits by the Lake in Littleton
There are some evenings that feel almost too beautiful to be real—and this fall family portrait session by the lake in Littleton was one of them.
The weather was absolutely perfect. Clear skies, crisp air, and that golden light that only shows up when the day is gently coming to a close. As the sun began to set, it painted the sky in soft, glowing hues, reflecting across the water and illuminating the mountains in the distance.
It’s hard to put into words just how breathtaking it was.
Where Nature Meets Something Deeper
There is something undeniably magical about the combination of sunset, mountains, and water. Each one on its own is beautiful—but together, they create something that feels almost sacred.
The stillness of the lake.
The quiet strength of the mountains.
The warmth of the setting sun.
And when you add a loving family into that scene… it begins to feel like a glimpse of heaven on earth.
Double the Sweetness
This beautiful family brought along their twin children—a boy and a girl—who were simply adorable.
There’s something so special about photographing twins. The connection they share is subtle but unmistakable. Whether they were laughing, standing side by side, or interacting with their parents, there was a natural rhythm between them that made every moment feel genuine and full of life.
They brought so much joy and playfulness to the session, balancing perfectly with the peacefulness of the setting.
Golden Hour Glow
As the sun dipped lower, the light became softer and richer, wrapping the entire scene in a warm glow. We captured a mix of moments—playful laughter, quiet connection, and those in-between glances that often become the most treasured images.
The reflections on the water, the silhouettes against the mountains, and the golden light surrounding the family all came together to create a gallery that feels both timeless and full of emotion.
Why Fall Sessions in Littleton Are So Special
Fall in Littleton, Colorado offers some of the most stunning backdrops for family portraits. Even without peak foliage, the combination of open skies, mountain views, and lakeside locations creates a setting that feels expansive and peaceful.
And when the sunset shows up like it did that evening—it takes everything to another level.
Capturing What Matters Most
At the heart of it all, sessions like this are about more than beautiful scenery. They’re about connection. About pausing time, even just for a moment, to hold onto what matters most.
The love between parents and children.
The laughter.
The closeness.
These are the moments that become memories—and the memories that become part of your family’s story.

Golden Hour Grace | A Fall Family Session in Englewood, CO
There are some sessions that stay with you—not just because of the images we create, but because of how they meet you right where you are in life. This fall family portrait session in Littleton, CO was one of those moments for me.
At the time, my own mother was in the middle of a health crisis, in and out of the hospital. My mind was heavy, my heart stretched thin, and if I’m being honest, I wasn’t looking forward to this session the way I normally would. Stress has a way of clouding even the things we love most.
And yet… I showed up.
Sometimes, Showing Up Is the Hardest Part
There’s a quiet truth I’ve come to recognize—sometimes the hardest part is simply showing up. It’s a lot like exercise. The anticipation can feel heavy, especially when life is overwhelming. But more often than not, once you begin, something shifts.
That’s exactly what happened that evening.
As the sun began to dip and the golden light wrapped around us, the weight I had been carrying softened. I found myself present again—laughing, connecting, creating. What I thought would feel like a struggle became something unexpectedly restorative.
A Beautiful Family, Full of Heart
This session was with a strong and loving single mother and her two children—a 4-year-old daughter and a 10-year-old son.
Her little girl was full of sweetness and spark, bringing that playful energy that makes sessions feel alive. Her son, on the other hand, carried a quiet kindness and maturity that was so touching to witness.
At the end of our session, as we packed up, he offered to carry my light stand—complete with a heavy sandbag filled with rocks—all the way back to the car. Such a simple gesture, but one that spoke volumes about his character. It was thoughtful, respectful, and incredibly kind.
Moments like that stay with you.
Golden Hour Magic
We photographed their session at golden hour, and the light could not have been more beautiful. Soft, warm, and glowing—it created the perfect backdrop for the love this family shares.
We captured a mix of playful moments and quiet connection:
Laughter between mom and her children
Sweet snuggles and close embraces
The natural rhythm of a family simply being together
The images turned out beautifully—full of warmth, emotion, and authenticity.
The Gift of Presence
This session was a reminder I didn’t know I needed. That even in the midst of personal stress and uncertainty, there is still space for beauty. Still space for connection. Still space for joy.
Photography has a way of giving that back—not just to the families I photograph, but to me as well.
What began as a session I almost dreaded became one that lifted me, grounded me, and reminded me why I do this work in the first place.

As the sun began to dip toward the horizon, the entire scene was wrapped in that soft, golden light that makes everything feel a little more magical.
A Family Rooted in Care and Connection
Both mom and dad are school teachers, which says so much about the kind of people they are—patient, dedicated, and deeply invested in nurturing others. That same care was so evident in the way they interacted with their children.
Their family dynamic was full of energy and love. Their older daughter brought confidence and curiosity, while their younger son was full of movement and play. Together, they created the kind of joyful chaos that makes family sessions come alive.
Golden Hour by the Lake
We planned the session during golden hour, and it couldn’t have been more perfect. The light reflected off the water, creating a warm, glowing backdrop that felt both serene and timeless.
The kids ran along the shoreline, laughed with their parents, and embraced the freedom of being outdoors. These are the moments I always hope to capture—the in-between laughter, the movement, the genuine connection that can’t be posed.
Between playful moments, we paused for more traditional portraits as well—everyone gathered close, framed by the lake and soft evening light. The result was a beautiful balance of candid and classic imagery.
Capturing This Season of Life
Family portraits at this stage are about more than just updating photos—they’re about preserving a season that passes all too quickly. The busy schedules, the growing independence of the kids, the everyday moments that feel ordinary now but will one day be cherished memories.
This session reflected all of that: the energy of two active children, the steady presence of their parents, and the love that ties them all together.

Fall Family Portraits in the Mountains of Conifer, Colorado
Sometimes portrait sessions remind us that life—like the Colorado weather—doesn’t always go according to plan, but beauty always finds its way in. This recent family portrait session in Conifer, Colorado was the perfect example.
We started the day under gray skies with the forecast calling for rain. I kept checking the horizon, wondering if we’d have to reschedule. But as the afternoon unfolded, the clouds began to lift, and what could have been a gloomy day turned into a golden, peaceful evening in the mountains.

A Family of Four, Full of Love
This family of four brought so much light to the session. Mom and Dad arrived with their sweet 2-year-old boy and their brand-new 2-month-old baby, ready to soak in the beauty of the mountains together.
The toddler, curious and playful, kept everyone smiling with his energy, while the littlest one was snug in his parents’ arms—calm, content, and along for the ride. Watching them together reminded me of how quickly these early years fly by, and how important it is to capture each stage along the way.
When the Aspens Aren’t What We Expect
Like many families in the fall, this family was hoping for the golden glow of aspen trees to frame their portraits. We had selected a beautiful location with clusters of aspens that I had scouted out, but when we arrived the day of the session, we discovered that the leaves had already fallen.
While the aspens weren’t shining in their usual fall brilliance, the mountains had other gifts to offer. We shifted focus, and headed over to the peaceful pond with stunning mountain views to use as our backdrop. The still water reflected the family beautifully, and the forested hills reminded us of Colorado’s timeless beauty.
Portraits That Tell Their Story
We captured the full family together, snuggled close against the mountain backdrop, as well as sweet individual moments:
Mom cradling her newborn with soft light on their faces
Dad chasing their toddler near the pond
The brothers together—tiny and new, already beginning a lifelong bond
Each image felt like a story in itself—one of love, resilience, and savoring a fleeting season of life.
Why Conifer Is Perfect for Family Portraits
Nestled just outside of Denver, Conifer, Colorado is one of my favorite spots for family photography. Even when nature surprises us with weather or early leaf changes, there are endless backdrops—mountain ridges, hidden ponds, wide meadows—that give each session a timeless Colorado feel.

Let Kids Be Kids | Littleton Family Photographer
When it comes to photographing kids, it's important to remember that they are their own unique individuals with their own personalities, interests, and quirks! In order to capture authentic and meaningful photos, it's crucial to let them be themselves during the photo session.
When kids feel free to be who they are, they're going to be more comfortable and relaxed, and this will shine through in the photographs! This means letting them express themselves in their own way, whether that means being silly, playful, or even a little shy.
By allowing kids to be themselves, you'll not only get more genuine and natural photos, but you'll also be able to capture their true character and spirit.
These are the photos that you'll cherish for years to come, as they truly represent who your child is, right now, and the special moments you share together.
I’m a huge believer in negotiating with toddlers (and older kids too). Remember, a little bargaining with the kiddos can go a long way! :)

Why invest in a professional photographer? | Littleton Family Photographer
Let’s agree that technology has come very far, very fast. It is crazy to think that the iPhone first came out in 2007 with a 2 megapixel camera and now the iPhone 14 now has a 48mp camera. WOAH!!!
But the problem here is… even with cameras advancing, both professional cameras and phone cameras… you will still be stuck behind the camera.
By hiring a professional photographer you are allowing yourself to get in front of the camera with your loved ones and capture gorgeous memories. Could you set up a tripod? Sure… you could but will the end results be incredible? Most likely no, and that is because you are missing that human touch…Even with the advanced focusing technology of newer cameras, you can’t easily zoom in or out or get creative angles when your camera is on a tripod. Plus, all the hassle of getting everything set up right on a tripod takes away from your time in front of the camera and your ability to connect with your family while the photos are being taken.
Also, you could have the top-of-the-line camera gear but if you aren’t fully educated and don’t know how to control the detailed settings, your photos simply won’t be as JAW-DROPPING as you want them to be.
I have poured myself into photography, including my equipment and education. I know my camera settings, I know how to manipulate light and I know how to provide an incredible experience.
I would love to document your family and create the most gorgeous memories for you to cherish for a lifetime. If you’re interested, please contact me!
